materials

Admissions process | Harvard Gazette Online

many folks sent in additional materials to supplement their application. personally, i didnt but now to think of it, i should have.

according to the article i posted, someone even sent the admission committee a "life-size plaster of paris casting of an applicant." did any of you sent in anything? if so, what was the item/material?

Nope. My D sent nothing. I couldn’t convince her to send in SOMETHING related to her two state champion music awards in different mediums. She said “if it’s not international or at LEAST national level, I’m sure they don’t want to be bothered”. And I imagine that’s true. But surely it makes them giggle a bit to get the silly type stuff. I can’t imagine how a faked Time Magazine person of the year cover would tip the scale, but at least it makes you human (but…is that in a good way?)

I sent a newspaper clipping of a letter I had written to the editor of my city newspaper, in which I rebutted arguments made by a nationally prominent journalist in an editorial about an issue near to my heart. My letter was on a topic related to the topic of my personal essay. I was admitted to Harvard, but of course I will never know whether my newspaper clipping helped or hurt my chances. “Let’s admit her in spite of that newspaper clipping . . . .” :)
