My questions are directed toward the Math Placement Exam and whether I have to take it or not (still confused about it)

1) Where can I find a list of required classes for a computer science + engineering student (what math classes would I have to take? Do they include Math 1, 3A, or 31A?)

2) I got a 5 on the BC calc exam and already took multivariable calc/differential eq at my school. Does my AP score help me in any way? (such as excusing me from the Math Placement Exam)

I guess the final question is: Do I have to take the Math Placement Exam? Thanks for the help! Gotta get the confusion out of the way before orientation =P

hey flopsy... what if I took calc AB last year and got a 5, but I was unable to take BC this year. Should I take math31A to refresh my memory since I probably forgotten most of everything, or should I move on and take 31B?

You should take Math 31B because the first week is sort of a review of Math 31A for those who skipped it. Plus, you'd have to petition to "re-take" Math 31A since UCLA already knows about your past AP Calculus AB credit, and that takes a while to process.

I'm an engineering student and I got 5s on the AB and BC Calc exams, but when a UCLA rep called he told me that all engineering students had to take the math placement test regardless of AP scores. Is this true or can I skip the placement test?

I might be wrong, in case the UCLA Math Department tightened the rules about the Math Placement Test since I took it. Just take the test to be safe -- it should be a piece of cake, since most engineering students get 60/60 on the test (the cut-off for being eligible for the Math 31A series is only 36/60).
