Math 1 or Math 2 for SEAS?

hello everyone,

i am applying ED next fall for SEAS. this spring i am going to write the chemistry subject test and the math subject test. i know i would do much better with the Math 1, but does admissions want SEAS applicants to take math 2? Is it better to take math 2 and get a lower score or take math 1 amd get a much higher one? or should i take both?

thanks in advance!

u should take one taking two math will be ridiculous
math 2 isn't that hard especially if ur applying to SEAS (assuming u took at least pre-cal)
so i recommend taking math 2( cover up to pre-cal i think) by studying little more and get good grade

i only studied for a week and still got 800 in math 2
i even had like 10min left during the exam
so no worry

You should take math 2 and get an 800. It's not that hard, and has a better curve than Math I which means its easier to do so, and its more impressive because it is on harder, more expansive topics. Take a practice test or two to get used to the timing of it in a review book and you'll be fine.

^there should be no doubt in your mind that you should take math II and expect to get close to an 800. If this is not the case it'll be tough at seas, heck engineering at most places will be difficult, any major at seas is math heavy (except maybe EEE); even bme, chem e, or material science which you might think have less math, go into great depth. even if you get something like 5-7 questions wrong out of 50 (or however many) you get an 800.

"there should be no doubt in your mind that you should take math II and expect to get close to an 800. If this is not the case it'll be tough at seas"

crap, i got a 760 on it. do just about all the applicants have 800's on the sat math level 2? does that make me pretty much screwed?

he/she siad "close to 800'
and rch855 760 is "close to 800"

so ur not screwed and ive seen stats that doesn have 800 in math IIC

Because it's very, very easy to earn an 800 on the Math II exam, you would not be looked upon positively if you don't make that score.

You could try Math I, but the curve is monstrous.

'close to 800' = like 770-800, but 760 is not going to put you at any disadvantage.

if you get below 730-720, then you are at a disadvantage applying to seas

I got deferred ED, I scored 790 M2, 800 M1.. studied for a day.. so you'll do the same in both tests considering that you're a SEAS applicant.. take M2 definitely.. I took M1 only because I paid for 3 tests and didn't want to waste the cash
