Math 10 or 20 for Econ Major?

I was reading over the requirements, and it says the 10 series is required, but the 20 series is recommended. My worry about taking the 20 series is that I know that the math and science majors will be taking these classes, so I'm competing against these students who are probably really good at math (while I am good, but not as good as a math/science major).

How much harder is the 20 series?

i love your name. **** YEA LAKERS!!

i’d recommend the 20 series. some upper div econ classes require the 20 series, and are not accessible with the 10 series. the 20 series honestly isn’t that bad. if you are confident about your math skills, i’d say just go for the 20 series. if you ever want to make a major change later in college, you’ll be happy you took the 20 series. all you need to take is 20 a-b-c-f. if you took ap calc and got a 4 or 5, you dont have to take 20 a and b, you only need to take c and f, which honestly aren’t that bad.

you’d be surprised how many dumbasses there are in every class, including math. its not just “math/science major” people in the 20 series. LOTS of majors require the 20 series and trust me, not all the engineers, chem majors, comp sci majors, management science majors, etc. that require the 20 series are good at math.

I would say as a general rule of thumb, if the university recommends something to you, you should highly consider doing it. Anyway, I agree with happyhappy.

^ i guess i have my answer then. thanks guys :)

how hard is an econ major in general? would it be too much if I were to say double in econ and poli sci?

yeah i heard econ is a really hard major “at ucsd” … i’m not sure what that means, but it sounds pretty bad.

if someone could give us freshmen an idea of what econ at ucsd is like compared to econ elsewhere, that’d be great!

well i wouldnt know how hard it is compared to elsewhere, but relative to other majors at ucsd, it is actually fairly easy.

in the econ department, econ is the easiest major. math-econ joint major is the hardest major in the econ department, followed by management science, then econ. math-econ joint major is hard because of the math portion, and all the people who were math-econ and couldn’t keep up drop down into management science and econ cuz they couldn’t handle the math.

management science is a bit harder than econ because it requires 20 a-b-c-f and some of the upper div classes are more math intense. on the other hand, econ major only requires 10 a-b-c for math and thats it, and the 10 series is a joke.

compared to the bio-chem, chem, engineers, computer science, etc. majors, econ is relatively easy

is the 20 series required for econ or would someone taking econ be fine with just the 10 series? I’ve read that some of the upper division classes require the 20 series

^If I’m not mistaken, that was the same question that was asked in the first place. If you look around hard enough, you just might be able to find the answer, and you might even be able to do it without leaving the page.

someone taking econ would be just fine with the 10 series. i think there is only one upper div econ class that REQUIRES 20F, and you can choose not to take this class. but quite a few of the upper div econ classes are RECOMMENDED that you have 20c and 20f. AND, if you want to change majors in the future, the 20 series is definitely better than the 10 series.

lol @ kingselite hahahahaha

most ppl take the 20 series, which is required for most of the other UCSD majors, just to be safe
