Math 10 vs Math 20

So I'm going in as a biochemistry major but was thinking of switching to human biology. Biochemistry requires Math 20s series but Math 10s will do for human biology. So I was planning to take the 10s series...
BUT!

The thing is, I'm pretty sure I'm going to major-jump a LOT. And all relatively within the science-y area, I'm sure.

Should I just stick it out with the 20s series? Or do the 10s?

:\ Thing is, GPA is going to be VERY VERY VERY VERY important to me (well, I know it is to you all too but...) so the 10s series would be easy for me to get A's in whereas... 20s, I feel nervous about.

Anyways, in case the suggestions shift towards taking the 20 series, I have all the textbooks and study guide for the math 10s series (yes, for the fall 2006 quarter) up for sale.

If you're going to shift majors a lot, then take the 20 series.

Diddo. Some majors REQUIRE you to take 20 series. But if you are doing it just to fulfill a GE then you can just take 10 series.

Based on my test results from MPE...

for 10 series
Math 10A Placement 10A ok,review
-Functions and their Graphs

for 20 series
Math 20A Placement 20A ok,review
-Exponents and Radicals
-Geometric Applications
-Logarithmic and Exponential Functions and their Graphs
-Polynomials and Polynomial Functions and their Graphs

do you think i can handle the 20 series MATH based on my results?

I would reccommend taking 10 series if you are doing it to fulfill a GE.

Sorry, I have no idea how to read your test results since I did not take it...

My major is Biochemistry & cell biology. Should I take math 10 or 20 series?

Biochemistry requires 20A-D.

well, there's two different biochemistry majors.
The one that's affiliated with the biology department, "Biochemistry and Cell Biology" requires only Math 10 A-C, although you can take the 20 series if you want.
http://biology.ucsd.edu/undergrad/sixmajors/bcb06.htm

However, the one that's affiliated with the chemistry department, "Biochemistry/Chemistry", requires that you take the 20 series.
http://www-chem.ucsd.edu/Academic/Ugrad/biochem.bs.pdf

I would recommend the 20 series, just in case you do want to switch.

:\ Right.

So. Who wants to buy the 10s series books off of me?

How did you get all the MATH10 books already, Diana? Hahaha.

And you'll be fine taking MATH20! :D You can study with me since I'm starting with MATH20B :}

Ehehe, ordered 'em online. Eager beaver me.

Lol, not sure if I'll be starting with 20B or 20C. All depends on how I did on my IB math (of which I still don't know my score!). But I say, chances are, I'll be starting with 20B too if I take the 20s series. So yay, if so, I already found a study buddy #1.

Hoorah for us! Hopefully you'll act as a benign presence and make me smarter seeing as you're a science major. >_<

i'm looking to buy a 10 series book.....what kind of 10 series book do you have? the title? used price or new price?

I have the 10 series book that's listed on the TritonLink site (I believe the same books are listed for 10A, 10B and 10C). I order it just 3 weeks ago as I looked it up on TritonLink. I am not in the US right now, so I can't ship it out right away. The book arrived at my house (in the US) while I was on the plane to Korea, so I cannot check for myself how used the book is, but I bought it in "like new" condition. Meaning, it may have some use, but it is not ripped apart or anything.

Of course, used price. I can ask my brother to take pictures of the books and post 'em online, and then you can offer accordingly. Don't worry, I won't try to rip you off either. If you offer too much, I'll readjust the price (to lower, duh). Email me at diana.seung@gmail.com if you're still interested.

i think i need a 10 series book when skool starts.........not sure if yours is the same book offered on the site with the same edition.

Im going to be a human biology major, and i got a 4 on the AP Calculus AB test, which exempts me from math 20A/math 10A. So should I start off with Math 20B or should I go with the 10 series?

Depends on what you want to do. The Math 20 series satisfies the math requirement for ALL majors, while the Math 10 series satisifes the math requirements for only a few select majors (i.e. economics, biology)

Personally, I'd recommend the Math 20, since you're still a freshman and will probably change majors quite a few times as your college career progresses.
But if you're hellbent on biology, and aren't planning to change to any other field like chemistry or management science, then either Math series is fine.

Plus, the Math 20 series covers only a little more than Math 10, and is curved quite generously.

I'd play it safe and go with the 20 series if you think you will be switching around alot. A little extra math rarely kills anyone.

So i still have to sell my solutions manual for math 20abc if anyone needs it

rarely kills? who has it killed in those rare instances? It'd be pretty unique to say "I died from overexposure to integrals"

I'm just being silly.
