Math 10C Textbook Question

I'm taking Math10C and I have a question about the book requirements.

Here are the books that are required:
1)Hughes-hallett Calculus: Single & Multivariable, 5 Edition, 9780470089149
2)Hughes-hallet (mccallum) Multivariable Calculus, 5 Edition, 9780470131589

And here are the books that are optional:
3)Hughes-hallett Calculus: Single & Multivariable St Sol Man, 5 Edition, 9780470414149 4)Hughes-hallett X Calculus: Single & Multivariable (looseleaf) 5 Edition, 9780470418055
5)Hughes-hallett X Calculus: Single Variable (looseleaf) 5 Edition, 9780470418062
6)Hughes-hallett (mccallum) X Multivariable Calculus Looseleaf 5 Edition,9780470455562
7)Hughes-hallett *2 Calculus Bundle (full Text + Soln Man.), 5 Edition, 9780470565018

Are #1 and #2 the same thing except #1 contains the material from Math10 ABC not just Math10 C? So is only one of them required?

And are #4,5, and 6 the same thing as the #1 and 2, but just looseleaf? (sorry if that's a stupid question, haha)

Also, if I reserved my textbooks at orientation, am I allowed to take some of the books from this reservation (like the chem 6a book which is ucsd custom) and buy other books from other places such as amazon or half.com?

I’m taking Math 10C and had the same question as you. I found this:
http://math.ucsd.edu/resources/math_textbooks.pdf

It looks like if you are only going to take 10C, then you can get the Multivariable book; otherwise if you plan to take the series, then get the Single & Multivariable book. As for the optional ones, I didn’t know what to do, so I will just wait till class starts to find out what I should get.

Is it okay if I buy the whole book for math10C so that I can review the material from AP Calc?

^Yes. 10char

does that mean if i only buy the multivariable book i wont be able to review the 10a,b stuff?

^No. You can use this website to review if you want.

[Al Shenk’s Home Page](Al Shenk's Home Page)

o thnx
just wondering, do u do any review for 10ab in 10c?

^We didn’t so probably not. The 10 series is really easy though (assuming you study, unlike what I did).

awww man
i think i forgot most of the stuff about calc…
nooooooo

If you can take an integral and derivative, you’ll be fine.
