I was just wondering if Math 114 is necessary in doing well in the upper level Wharton classes or even entry level. I know its not a requirement but would I be better off taking it since I'm going to AP out of 104.

I was wondering the same thing as well. Will you "run out" of calculus skills with only AP Calc when you take upper-level courses? Would you recommend taking STAT101 early in its place?

Math 114 is definitely not necessary for "Wharton". It depends a lot on what interests you and what you want to concentrate in. If you're at all quantitatively inclined, Math 114 (and 240+) is really required. Many Wharton people are of such a nature, and if you're interested in quantitative finance or hedge funds, for example, you'd do well to take Math 114. Also, if you're interested in research, it's good to have.

However, if you're going to be a normal Finance concentration (like 80% of the class) or a simple marketing or management concentration (between those 3, that's 95%+ of the class) it's really not necessary.

My advice: don't rush into it, and don't take 114 the first semester. Take your other classes, and see what you're interested in. You can take it second semester or sophomore year if you really want to follow those paths.

STAT101 is no replacement for calculus, but you should still take it ASAP since almost every upper level class uses it. Later on, you may run out of math skills if you decide to take quantitative classes, but you'll know what you're into by then.
