What's the difference between these two courses? I understand that 127 is geared toward the business school students, but do they progress at the same rate and cover the same topics? I will be in b-school next year so I assume 127 is the right choice for me, but then again I'm pre-med so I'm not sure.

Thanks for any help

if you’ll need to take calc III (Math233) sometime down the road for your pre-med requirements, I think you’re advised to go ahead and take 131 and 132 now (see the course description for 127)…

Tbh I don’t know anyone who took 127 though, so I can’t really tell you what the differences are.

Ditto to what Don said. If you’re premed take 131-132-233.

I too have no idea what the differences are either

Even if you’re not premed, there are a lot of business students who choose to take 233 anyway (I think some of the majors say it’s “highly recommended”? or maybe it opts you out of a different math class? no clue.)

I don’t know about 127 vs 131, but it was very clear when I was taking 132 and a suitemate was taking 128 that we were learning more. Said suitemate tried to claim it was the opposite, but she didn’t have a clue about half the things we covered in 132. 127/128 is essentially math for kids who don’t want to take math, just like there are science classes that fill the ns requirement for kids who really don’t want to take science.

If you’re premed, I’d definitely suggest you go up to 132. However, I don’t think 233 is necessary. Med schools require at most 2 semesters of calculus, and sometimes statistics or computer science. Calculus 233 isn’t required for anything premed, but it might be required by a possible major.

I met with my advisor and we decided math 131 and 132 is the right choice for me because I’m pre-med. Thanks for all the help
