Math 1502

So maybe a stupid question, but I'm confused on what textbooks are needed for this course.
The syllabus says we'll be using two books. However, B&N only says "MyMathLab" is required.

Clarification please!

Thanks

I think somethings not right on B & N . DS ordered the bundle with the calc book and computer code but I don’t think the linear book is in that bundle. Ugh.

I called the bookstore. They said the second book was really expensive so instead of selling it the bundle comes with the online text for it… I would think there might be a lot of flipping back and forth with a math book so should DS buy a hard copy of this book on amazon anyway?

I emailed the math department a couple of weeks ago, they said it’s Thomas’ Calculus Early Transcendentals 12th edition. Also Math 1502 has a Linear Algebra book too, I think it’s by Lay and it’s in its 4th edition.

By the way, what are the prices like at the GT B&N? I assumed that it was overpriced and went straight to online places like Chegg for rentals, but I haven’t actually seen their prices.

B & N probably is more expensive than other places. Because DS wasn’t clear on how the whole computer codes for the classes worked we ordered the bundle from B & N. I figured next semester once he figures it all out we can go with amazon or something else.

I also called the engineers bookstore about the lay book. Seems the math dept went to the online version however they do have some hard copies there for sale. Still can’t decide if hard copy is needed…

I never once used my Calc II text book. All the homeworks were online and I went solely off the teacher’s notes, handouts, and practice worksheets. I made an A

Agreed. Textbooks for calc (calc 2 and 3) wasn’t useful to me at all. Only thing I had to use the books for was homework. The mymathlab code is how I was required to do homework for the linear algebra portion of calc 2. So there isn’t any escaping from buying that. First month or so the class was calculus material and the rest was linear algebra. Because of that a used copy or PDF version will suffice. It is pretty hard to learn out of the textbooks so go to class and take notes.

Also I have never had a professor who uses the textbook in class as a teaching material. So no need to worry about accessing it in class.
