Math 175 - Professors

I was bumped from my first choice Math 175 section and moved to section 5, which is taught by Mihalik. I checked ratemyprofessor.com, but he hadn't been given any ratings. Has anybody had any experience with Mihalik?

Also, does anybody know if there is a recommended calculator for Math 175? Or do different professors have different preferences? In high school I used a TI-89.

Thanks!

Don't know anything about that professor, but I do know that calculators aren't used in 175.

Wasn't in Mihalik's class, but if you were bumped from John Rafter's section, consider yourself lucky. The guy is very intelligent, but can't teach worth a penny.

No calculators in 175.

I'll disagree with David on this point, Rafter is a great teacher. I have him for 247, Probability, this semester. Get him if you can.

Not familiar with Mihalik

ive never had rafter but some of my friends that had him for 175 said it was impossible. i just took their advice and signed up fo a different section this semester.

you basically want to stay away from foreign professors in math. You won't understand what the heck they're talking about especially if you don't have a clue what the subject is about. Rafter's cool. I had him myself. Don't dis him :)

Don't know about Prob, but in Math 175 Rafter just wasn't that great. My previous statement about his teaching being worth less than a penny was overstated. Maybe he just wasn't my style or something.

I actually thought that Gieri Simonette was a pretty good professor.

I've never heard of Mihalik either, but here's his website: http://sitemason.vanderbilt.edu/files/c/cFrAMo/Nvita.pdf . He is not a foreigner.

Hey imh0, I have section 5 for 175 also.
