Math 2 Prep

Hey. Let me begin by explaining my situation. I am a junior right now. I went to a different school than I do now and that school required all freshman to retake Alg 1. Now at my new school most freshman take geometry, so I'm sort of a year behind here. I still want to take Math 2 even though they recommend a good amount of time spent with Trig. Since I'm in alg 2 right now as a junior, I plan to take this the beginning of my senior year. Here's my plan: I bought a Barron's book and plan to go Over the trig in it. If I still feel uncomfortable with it, I will either sign up for a summer trig class or buy a textbook and self teach myself. Any ideas on this?

An algebra 2 or geometry class should eventually cover enough trig for the SAT II.

& That sounds like a good plan. There are many good resources and books out there for trigonometry. You don’t need too many theorems and identities; mostly just the definitions of the trig functions, knowing how to graph them, law of sines, law of cosines, addition/difference formulas. It seems like a lot, but once you understand it to the core, it’s a piece of cake.

@MITer94‌ Do you recommend any good books to review Trig?

There is a lot of trig on the exam, but there are also come core pre-calculus concepts that will show up. It is normally recommended that you take the SAT Math 2 after a pre-calculus course. My suggestion would to be to take a summer trig course in tandem with proper math coaching. If you can work with an Math 2 subject test expert, s/he will help you solidify your foundations and get you to where you need to be. The Barron’s book tends to be extremely overwhelming, so it would probably be in your best interest to have somebody help you target your approach.
