Math 2 SAT II... how hard?

What math level should you complete before you take?
Is it extremely difficult?
I will be done with Alg II/Trig by the end of this year, and I am wondering if that is good enough (if I am not very good at math)?

You should go to collegeboard and try some sample questions and see if you are scoring over 80% on it. You can find some on the Math II webpage and in the handbook for SAT II tests.

Although I only scored a 660 on it, I felt the difficulty level of the problems were quite easy. Timing is something you should work on though (I learned the hard way).

Generally the highest level of Algebra is what’s needed. Calculus doesn’t help.

Extremely difficult depends on the person and the score you’re aiming for. I took it a year after I finished Math Analysis (Pre-Calc), which basically was a review of previous Algebra plus Trig. So basically I was using what I had learned in Alg 2 and before.

I ended up with 800, though I didn’t finish. It’s much more similar to what you’re taught in class, so nothing should surprise you in terms of solving methods. You might want to glance through a review book at a store to see if you learned everything (or most things) on the test. It does have a fairly friendly curve.

Thank you so much guys!

So is it possible to take it along with several other subject tests and simply pick your best two scores and send them in (to UC’s for example)?

Also, is it good to take the Math 2 because I will be taking advanced math classes (calculus) in college (for pre-med, but Biology major), or should I just take subject tests that will get me a higher score (since I am not too strong in math)?

Thanks, in advance

I didn’t think it was too difficult. I had forgotten some tougher trig concepts since I has taken Calc BC most recently. The hard thing for me is timing. I didn’t get to about 6 questions.

Hmm… How long/how many questions?

50 questions in 60 minutes.

Every SAT Subject Test is 60 minutes long.

Oh, no.

As to my previous question, does anyone think I should take it?

Take a practice test and find out. There is a very generous curve, but some of the questions can be a bit tricky if you don’t remember certain things.

Take it if the colleges you are applying to require SAT Subject Tests as well as the SAT. Also, you don’t need to take Math 2 if you are like a history major or something. But, as chenman333 said, the curve is generous and a ton of people score a 800 (I did).

If I am a Biology major, but pre-med, so taking Calculus and Stats etc. should I take it?
Even if I am not a strong math student?

If you’re in calculus you’ll be fine, but you’ll prolly want to review some material from pre-calc and trig

At the end of this year, I’ll be done with Alg II/Trig. Is that enough if I teach myself some pre-calculus over the summer (next summer)?

Also, is Barron’s good for Math level 2?

^ YES!!! I haven’t taken the test yet, so I can’t say whether it really works, but I am using that book now and it’s really good. The problems aren’t as hard as most people say but are at least somewhat interesting. It’s good for very basic AMC prep too…

I got a 680 on Math I and a 790 on Math II. I’ll just let those numbers do the talking

With Pre-Calculus and some minimal preparation through practice tests, an 800 is feasible even for those without strong math abilities.

yeah it’s so hard because everyone says it’s so easy

the only calc stuff on it at all is limits, but they’re easy.
