my son will be taking sat math 2 in the near future - will be taking CalcAB this yr. Better to wait after taking that, or go ahead now?
Thx, H

If he's taking Calc AB this year, then I assume he's already taken pre-calculus. If so, now's, the perfect time to take the SAT II Math IIC (which I think is now simply known as the SAT Math 2 subject test) if he so chooses. The test covers material through pre-calculus and no calculus is needed. The alternative test (the IC) does not include pre-calculus and has a harsher curve. The IIC is recommended for anyone applying as a math/science/engineering major or anyone applying to a school that won't accept the IC (I think the UC's adopted that policy this year)

Thanks - daughter took math 1 after algebra 2 and we found out about the curve on that one. Yes, he has taken precalc - just making sure there was no need for calc. Appreciate the help.

No problem - good luck!

I just finished pre-calc too. Will it hurt to wait to take the test until after Calc AB?

It won't hurt - theres a few problems you might be able to use some basic calculus on - but you'll need to make sure your geometry and trig is still fresh before you go take the test. I think that after pre-calc is the best time to take the IIC

will get them signed up once CB allows it.
thx for info - now - any particular book recommended? posts saying stay away from barron's. have meylani - something better?

I took the test over two years ago and I have no idea what I used back then (before I knew about CC). I've heard good things about the Meylani books, but I've never actually seen the book myself. (I'll have to go to the bookstore one day and see if they have it there to glance through). Look at the other tread on the first page about Math 2c books for more info.
