I am taking 20C at present. What should i take in spring 20 D, E or F. And which of the 3 is easier?

Thanks

I went F > E > D. My advice is, instead of worrying about taking the classes in the ‘best order’ or whatever, take the class which has the best professor teaching it that quarter – and by that, I mean figure out which professors allow cheat sheets on exams.

20F (Linear Algebra) is a pretty easy class - just matrices over and over again. I only took it first because I needed it as a pre-req for Math 109. 20E (Vector Calculus) is ridiculous. My professor, Lindblad, didn’t allow us to use notes on exams and the only formulas he gave us were simple ones that weren’t even needed for the test questions… maybe it’s an easier class if you’re allowed notes, idk. I should say, though, that I turned in my final knowing I was going to get a D, at best, and I ended up with a B+ (and I had gotten a D on the second midterm) - so even if you can’t use cheat sheets, expect the curve for the class to be sick.

I’m in 20D now with Eggers, who is awesome (and allows a page of notes on exams). And even though in lecture I’m sometimes like, …what?, and I just mindlessly copy down notes, I was able to score an A on the first midterm (only 3 questions; the average was 16/18).

Rabin is teaching 20E spring 2010 and he is an AMAZING professor (I had him for 109) - I highly recommend taking 20E with him if you can work it into your schedule. Eggers is also cool, so definitely try to take a math class with him.

How are Laura Stevens and Shengli Kong for 20F? (professors for upcoming spring qtr)

Both are awesome. I envy the people taking 20F this spring. I’m taking it right now and it’s okay I guess.

eltagra - I’m taking 20D with Eggers also! I overslept on the first midterm LOL I looked over my friend’s midterm and it was really an easy A -_- what a waste…lucky he adds the 20% (from midterm) to the final just in case soemone miss the midterm…
I’m taking 20F with Stevens next quarter I heard she’s the best!
Also, I don’t think you’ll need linear algebra for 20D since most of the matrix stuff are from algebra 2…I’m not having any trouble at the moment…
Don’t worry about the “class”, worry about the professor. 20C and currently 20D is not difficult, you just need a good professor that explains the material really well.

take math 20F, then 20D, then 20E (This is the way you are supposed to take it)
its true that you don’t need 20F for 20D, but I feel that 20F is easier and linear algebra is discussed later on in 20D, so you might as well take it first. Both 20d and 20f have required MATLAB assignments and homework problems, a matlab final (a 2 question quiz), 2 midterms and a final.
