Hey guys, I'm a sophomore finishing AP Calculus BC this semester, and I'm interested in taking Math 2D, multivariable calculus at UCI this summer. I have a few questions regarding this course for you fine UCI students -

How difficult is this course? I'm really good at AP Calc and I understand all the concepts, but will this be far more difficult (like, totally insane? or just challenging?)?

How much will this benefit me down the line? How well would the credits transfer to other UCs, or private institutions when I enroll after high school?

Sorry if some of the questions are phrased poorly. Thanks for reading! Any replies are well appreciated.

I thought multivariable calculus is a pretty hard course. If you treat it as just a plug and chug type course, you might be fine, but whats really difficult is understanding what all of it means. I’m a physics major who took advance electricity and magnetism (using Griffiths textbook). That book/course really demands that you speak vector calculus FLUENTLY. Which I dont think anyone in our class did.

Depends on the major. You’d have to be some type of engr or physical science major to need to transfer multi variable calc. Note, multi variable calc at uci is 2D and 2E, two classes. If you take both, you can skip out of multi variable when you actually get to college (or take more advance math while still in HS). If you only take one course and go to a semester school (like Cal), you won’t get credit (although you’ll know the material which will help…)

Note: UCI is ****in expensive… why not just take it at the junior college?
