Math 2D

Is math 2D a difficult class? Well, it seems pretty tough just from its name "multivariable calculus" but I want to know if the level of difficulty is reasonable compared to other math classes at UCI. I struggled a lot with my calculus class in high school but surprisingly managed to receive a 5 on AP Calc BC test. Is professor Zheng, Z. a good teacher? From looking at ratemyprofessor.com, she doesn't seem like a good teacher...

Oh, and is computer science considered/counted as a math course? Because I'm supposed to take 1 year (3 quarters) of math as an undergraduate in UCI, including calculus & stats. So I was planning to take 1 quarter of calculus and 1 quarter of stats. I have another quarter left and calculus really isn't my best subject. I really don't know much about computer science besides its general info. I know they're different but are computer science classes considered harder or easier in comparison to calc classes?

So at Irvine it goes Math 2A = Derivatives, Math 2B = Integrals, and Math 2D = Derivatives and integrals with a 3rd dimension… So it’s just MORE derivatives and integrals. If you found things like series hard then you don’t have to worry about it. They also will baby you through polar coordinates and vectors again. Zheng sounds like a fobby asian teacher I didn’t have him/her so I dunno. loL…

What other class can you take… 2J, that’s like… linear algebra and alot of the series stuff…

Can’t really compare stats to calculus because that’s like apples to oranges.

I have no idea about computer science.

Doesn’t a 5 on BC calculus would waive 2 quarters of your 3 quarter requirement?

if you got a 5 on BC, you shouldnt be worry about math 2D :)… I think it might be review to you

Yeah, I did find the C part of the calc BC class much harder. Because I’m particularly not so good at the series stuff I decided to take 2D instead of 2J. I actually have 12 units (3 quarters) credit already due to my AP Calc BC + AP Stats test scores but unfortunately, med schools either require or recommend 1 year of college math (AP not accepted) :frowning: Although I’m not sure if I’ll stick to premed throughout my 4 undergrad years, (in case I do end up sticking to my plans) I wanted to get the math portion over with in my freshman years before I forget calculus.

Thanks for the replies! You guys made me feel much better.

That’s just like me! Nice. I decided to just take 1 quarter of math… If a college brings it up, I’m seriously just going to be like… dude I passed multivariable calculus cmon give me a break. And if they still want more math after that… well I’ll give in and take more math. (not too worried about forgetting)

Really? This is what Math 2D (more fearingly known as MultiVariable Calculus) consists of?!

That does not seem too bad at all. And yeah, series was the worst part for me in Calculus BC, and I did end up getting a 5 on the BC test, and thought that I’d be left behind in Math 2D for my fuzziness on Series and Sequences…

Good news to hear, what a relief.

I’d say screw MV calc, consider doing math 4, Math 13 and then taking math 3a for ****s and giggles.

no advanced calculus necessary. Math4 has a little bit of MV calc in it, but only basic derivitives

FYI, 3a supposedly has math 13 as a prerequisite, but I don’t think it’s entirely necessary. Heck I don’t even feel that 2B is necessary.

I’m a transfer though so I might be a bit off, did Math4 first summer session and am doing 3a right now and neither are too bad(this is coming from someone who struggled in the equivalent of 2B and failed the AP test AB calc with a score of 2)
