how do you place out of it...what AP exam and what scores in both AB Calc and BC Calc....?

AB can't get you out of 32... you need a 4 or 5 on BC to get out (correct me if I'm wrong). Still, a 3 on BC gets you out of 31, whereas you need a 5 on AB to get out of 31.

I hear 32 is the hardest math. In my position I wanna do pre-med with a math major at Duke. Is it my best bet to skip Math 32...? How is math after that in terms of grading

Personally, I feel u shouldnt retake 32 if u got credit for it thru BC Calc cuz 1) its mostly stuff u already know, u can just go over the stuff u forgot/didnt learn by urself and dont need to retake an entire class for it and 2) I heard its just as demanding, even for those with 5's in BC, as skipping onto the next course, MATH103. If ur a bit shaky tho on the stuff in BC, theres no harm in retaking if ur so inclined to do so, they also have an honors version of 32 if I'm not mistaken. Also as a math major, skipping 32, u can end up taking some harder math classes which might be more interesting for u.

41 is supposed to be chill as a class compared to 32 cuz you dont have the lab component and you end up taking the same exam as 32 in the end...and the next class you are eligible to take is 103

Yeah I heard that too (about 41 being more laid back in terms of lab-work)

I wish I would have known about 41 before registration.
I did compare 41 to 32L and although 41 doesnt have a lab component, the total time per week is the same.

As of now I'm registered for Math 32L I was wondering what math I should've selected b/c in HS I only took an AB Calc course and I studied some BC stuff on my own ... therefore I decided to take the BC Calc AP Exam and I got a 5 on BC and a 5 sub-score on AB ... should I take 103 in the Fall or stick with 32L b/c I never truly had a Calc II class?

DukeBlueDevil: I dont remember ever needing any calc bc stuff for 103. Also, 103 is easier to get a better grade in and ull be further ahead. I think that if you can, you should go ahead and do 103. You can even start out with 103 and drop back down during drop/add if you feel out of place. But if you got a 5 on the BC, you should be plenty prepared for the material.

Thank you for the reply
I need to wait for Drop/Add to get 103

now i'm inclined to take 103 b/c I'd keep my 32 credit

What about 32L vs 41L (if I can't get 103) for someone in Pratt?

I dont think the Pratt course guide every specifically says you can take 41. So at the very least you have to make sure thats ok. But I think you might as well take 32 since your gonna have to continue onto 103 and beyond anyway.

I think I can take 41 and keep my AP 31 credit for Pratt

I just dont understand the appeal in taking 41 over 32. It seems to me that 41 is more for people who just kinda want to get a math req out of the way but in pratt you cant do that ne way. Also, you can take 32 with no lab if you want. Do you have any particular reason for favoring 41 over 32?

Isn't 41 curved easier than 32 or something so more people take it?

I like 41 b/c there's a review of Calc 31 topics first.

i'm not quite sure what to do either.. i have credit for 31 but i don't know if i should take it again or not.. i mean going into pre-med, i'm wondering if its useful to have a solid foundation in math.. or should i just take math 32?

"MTH 041: One Variable Calculus. ... Not open to students who have had Mathematics 31 or 32 or 31L or 32L. ..."

So I guess I can't take 41 and keep my 31 credit

I did Calc BC but did horribly on the exam but then I did the equivalent of 103 through stanford. I think Im gonna take 31 and 32 to get a good gpa for med school admissions
