Math 32A Course Waitlists Closed - help

Hi. I'm a first-year CSE student. Today was my 2nd pass to sign up for winter quarter courses, and the math class I need has been closed, except a different lecture that will not fit into my schedule. Is there any way to get into the course? If I wait through winter break and see if people drop? How do PTE's work and who / where do I go to get one?

Thanks!

I guess the real question is… how likely am I going to get into the class, not being on a waitlist? do people normally drop the class by the start of the quarter?

my last option is to enroll in the other lecture, but that would require a reconstruction of my entire schedule, and i’d get the less-preferred professors every one of my classes.

new to this. thanks for any help

Someone always drops math. Just keep stalking the waitlist. If you can get on it, you’re almost guaranteed a spot. (You get a PTE from a counselor or the professor teaching the course. In my experience, professors generally give PTEs on the first day of class.)

I actually emailed the professor and he said “it is not in my power to give out PTEs” and told me to see the Student Services Offices at the math department, but I’m having trouble finding out where this is.

MS 6356 (or something like that)

Walking south through the MS breezeway, turn right through the doors. Go straight at the first hallway, open the door to the stairs, go up a floor, turn left, it’s the 2nd room on the left

The math department counselor replied and said to wait until people drop. No other option. From experience, does this happen often, to freshman at least? How can an engineering student NOT take math… ? …

Well, you’d be surprised. Some people decide that the whole south campus thing ain’t working out, or maybe next quarter would be a better idea. Or sometimes they aren’t passing their current math class. Just stalk the waitlist.

I was in the same boat last year trying for 31b w/ Brown. Basically, I put a post-it on my laptop and everytime I went on my computer (many times throughout the day) I would FIRST CHECK URSA. It only took about 5 days and a spot opened up (on the waitlist - everyone is admitted). I seriously had to blink twice and refresh the page a few times just to make sure I wasn’t fooling myself.

But in order to get into the class, people would have to drop and you would have to add before Week 2 ends, correct?

^ That’s only for impacted courses.

Look under " Undergraduate Study List Changes "
[UCLA Schedule of Classes: Enrollment](http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/soc/enroll.htm)

So it looks like you can do it up to the end of week three.
But with the math department, I think you can’t really do it on your own after the first day of class. (Other than drop.) If you want to add, I believe you have to go to the department or something… I may be wrong though.
