I was wondering if the Berkeley version of the Stewart textbook is just select chapters from the full Stewart: Early Transcendentals calculus textbook, or is it actually a different book with different sections, problems, etc.? I ordered the full 6th edition on half.com, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to use it...

I have the full 6th edition book too, and compared it with the Math 53 textbook version. Unfortunately, they do not match up completely.

The content in the chapters are same, but the chapter numbers are different. You can still figure out which chapter in the Math 53 textbook corresponds to the 6th edition textbook by looking at the chapter titles though.

However, the biggest bummer (which makes 6th edition kinda useless) is that the math problems are different. I was able to find the problems in a scrambled order in each section, but they do not correspond directly to the Math 53 textbook.

I think your best bet is to buy the Math 53 textbook, or do use your 6th edition for reading, and borrow a friend’s textbook for the homework problems.

Ah damn that sucks. Well thanks for the reply

just wondering, is there a difference in the solutions manual as well? b/c the prices for that in the student store, ned’s, and amazon are all roughly the same…and the version at the student store doesn’t say “custom” either.
