Math 54, Econ 1, CS61A, IB 35AC

which one of the classes above should i phase 1?

Econ 1: 4 units
Math 54: 4 units
CS 61A: 4 units
IB 35AC: 3 units

In case you aren’t already aware, you can Phase 1 10.5 units. This means that, from this list, you can Phase 1 2 classes. Given that Econ 1 is almost full (presumably because Olney, one of the better Econ 1 professors, is teaching it in the fall), I’d phase 1 that. I’ve heard that you can get away with signing up for CS 61A in Phase 2, and there are 2 huge lectures for Math 54, so I’d Phase 2 that too. That leaves you with:

Phase 1:

 • IB 35AC
 • Econ 1

Phase 2:

 • Math 54
 • CS 61A

Given that, in this set-up, you are only signing up for 7 units in Phase 1 (and thus are 3 units short of the maximum number), you should consider finding a 3-unit class that you’d like to take (as a breadth, major requirement, etc.) in case either Math 54 or CS 61A don’t work out in Phase 2. (You could always drop that 3-unit class if those Phase 2 classes did work out.) You can also sign up for a P.E. class (which is one-half of a unit) in Phase 1 if you are interested in that.

Definitely Phase II Math 54 or CS 61A.

You might not get into the discussion sections you want, but you will be enrolled in the class one way or another…

phase 1 54 isntead of IB35AC

Are you considering Math H54 (the honors version)? Historically, the honors versions of math courses tend to be slower to fill up.

Don’t Phase 1 Math 54. Even if it fills up, math classes always add more sections and accommodate everyone. It will be stressful, but it will be fine in the end. I Phase 2’d Math 53 and 54 as a freshman and had no trouble getting in.

I agree with basketballkid124, Phase 1 Econ 1 and IB 35AC.

since i can take ib35ac anytime i want, should i just phase 1 econ1 and cs61a instead?

The downside to signing up for Econ 1 and CS 61A in Phase 1 is that you are unable to add an additional 3-unit class if you choose to do so. Also, given that it is possible to get into CS 61A from Phase 2 and that you do want to take IB 35AC too, it’d make sense to take advantage of the fact that you CAN phase 2 CS 61A, which allows you the flexibility in this semester to Phase 1 interesting breadth/AC class that you find interesting like IB 35AC.

another question: should i take math54, cs61a, econ1, and a seminar/decal to adjust to college life first? and save the ib35ac for later?
