Debating whether to take 54 with Holtz or Grunbaum. Reviews I have read of the two are varied and, all in all, unhelpful. There seem to be a number of students who claim that Holtz simply lectures straight out of the textbook, but just as many others who claim she is a great 54 instructor. Perhaps she is both? I don't know very much about Grunbaum, but the little I do is all positive.

i’ve had both professors (holtz for 54 and grunbaum for 110) and i would recommend grunbaum. with both professors, your textbook will be your “true” teacher, but at least grunbaum is entertaining. he’s the type of teacher who will talk about random things throughout the year not pertinent to the class (albeit interesting), but will still clearly outline what he expects you to know for the exams. o holtz just kind of gave a chapter range for each exam and was somewhat vague in her expectations.

Yeah, people have said that Grunbaum’s an entertaining old guy.

The thing is, I’d take Grunbaum over Holtz but pursuing Grunbaum would lead to 8am classes, while Holtz’s are 3-4pm. Is it worth it? :/

As crowslayer91 mentioned, your book is the true teacher; figure it out from there. However, enroll in the discussion sessions that you can wake up in time.

if you can’t handle 8 am classes, just go with holtz imo. at the end of the day it should be fine, just study well.
