Math 54 is strangely hard...?

I'm currently taking Math 54 with Grunbaum, and we just had a midterm, which I completely blew. It's not that I didn't understand the material or anything, since I understood what I did wrong immediately after exiting the exam. It's just testing anxiety and such.

Does anyone who has taken Grunbaum and/or Math 54 in general know if there is opportunity for redemption even after being hit sort of hard by the first midterm?

I had Grunbaum for 110, which is also linear algebra, so I guess it’s a close enough parallel experience.

I don’t know what his grading scale for 54 is (check your syllabus) but as long as you do well on the final, I think you’ll do fine. A lot of people tend to duff one or the other midterms, so you might not be in a bad place, relatively. As long as you do above average on MT2 and final, it’ll balance out.

ehhhh…do really well on the second MT. From what I heard this is the easiest, MT2 is ok, and the final comes out of nowhere. Pretty sure it’s a straight scale (I mean, our section average was really high, so I don’t think there’ll be a curve that’s too drastic). More than anything, the grading was obscenely harsh in some cases…I’d say the probs themselves were significantly easier than the HW though…have you been doing them all and understanding them? Redemption? Yes…but depends on how bad you did…

I’m taking 54 in the other lecture. I find the material easy to understand but I did bad on two of the quizzes. I made a couple of stupid mistakes and a couple of the questions were crazy hard. Our first midterm is on the 24th and Im hoping that they don’t put too many proofs or deep theoretical questions.

Anyone who has taken Grunbaum before know what I should anticipate? I’m not aiming for a high grade or anything, I just want to avoid getting a C.
