My friend who has always been better than me in math, took linear alg at cornell but found it waay too hard. Im debating whether to take 53(multi var calc) or 54. And let me know how hard 54 can get. I hear its all proofs...something i really hate about math.

I'm taking it right now with Ming Gu. Our mid-terms are 1/2 proofs and 1/2 computational stuff. The computational stuff is really easy. The proofs...they are graded tough. Honestly, though, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I along with a lot of my classmates have trouble with proofs, so you won't be the only one. Plus, when you understand the material well enough to do the proofs it's pretty rewarding.

The difficulty really depends on the teacher, but I doubt you'll find it absolute hell under any teacher. Some will make you do more proofs than others.. I myself did very few when I took it. The material itself is rather tough to grasp, as it's a lot more abstract than stuff like calculus.

math 54 is like sex: if you have a lot of it you'll become more experienced

By that line of thinking, everything is like sex.

I like your thinking.

Keep lying to yourselves, math majors.

I personally think Math 54 is easier than Math 53. It's more abstract but the computational stuff is really easy.

commonsense: what teacher did you have?

I hated Math 54...struggled with a horrible prof and GSI. Ended up getting a D my first semester after transfer. Retook it in summer school and got an A. Good Prof/GSI is the key. Unfortunately, I don't remember the profs name.
