So apparently someone named Vojta is teaching 55 next semester, and according to reviews, he's terrible... I'm a prospective Cog Sci major, so I need to take 55, but I don't really have too much of a math background. A good professor is probably going to be important for me since I don't have as much experience as others in the class... Any advice?

Quality of the professor has nothing to do with your grades. Often times you see that there is an inverse relationship between the number of A’s and the professor’s teaching quality. (at least that is certainly how I felt in my 1st year!) If you’re not too into math and want to get away with a decent grade by studying yourself, just go for it.

so its doable to take 55 and to teach yourself most of the stuff, even if you don’t really have any serious math background?

In my opinion, any lower-div math class is doable by self-studying.
Besides, there’s always your GSI who can help you out.
If things really don’t work out, form a study group.
