Hello everyone i need some suggestions. i'm currently high school senior. the biggest problem i faced was not being able to take higher than Pre-calculus in my high school. although i took some College credit courses such as Biology and English. my problem is that i don't feel ready for taking college calculus. i will be biology major/ pre- med students. would anyone suggest taking summer math course at near by community college to help me prepare math. i would leave calculus course for my university though. just a preparation. also anyone's opinion about college calculus classes. are they manageable for students not so prefect at math

Instead of taking a course for credit, how about if you try an online AP Calc AB class. You don’t have to take the AP exam at the end. That way the class won’t be included in your GPA/sGPA when you go to apply to medical schools.

Any college classes (and that includes all CC classes) taken–even if you’re still in high school–must be reported to AMCAS when you apply for med school.

Or alternatively if you have good self discipline, you could try working thru a calculus prep text yourself. Make sure you work thru the problems yourself–it’s the only real way to learn math.

The Khan Academy videos are supposed to be very helpful

[Calculus | Calculus | Khan Academy](http://www.khanacademy.org/math/calculus)

You might check those out too.

As for calc being manageable? That depends on your grasp of the foundational concepts of pre-calc and your work ethic. Neither of my kids were perfect at math–and they found calc 1 quite manageable. (Though both took it in high school.)

so if i reviewed my Pre-cal class ( i have all my notes and my own pre-cal book) that i did this year, bought a book would that be good enough?
any recommendation for books for Pre-cal and Calculus to buy regarding this manner
my goal is really to get A on calculus

Gosh, I’m not sure what books colleges are even using these days. I used Thomas’ back when dinos roaned the earth.

If you have concerns, I’d suggest you work thru your old pre-calc book to keep your skills fresh and probably pick up a used calc text–preferrably the one used by the college you’ll attend in the fall.–and see what headway you can make with the material.

Do watch the khan academy videos if you get stuck. Or consider hiring a tutor once or twice just to get you past the hump.

Both kiddos say Calc 2 is much harder than Calc 1.

The most important thing you can do for yourself w/r/t calc is go to lecture and recitation faithfully, find a study group to work with at college, go to your TA’s office hours (your TA is there to help you), and do all the homework as soon as it’s assigned. If you do it right away, you won’t end up stuck 30 minutes before the assignment’s due and will have time to get help if you need it.

If you feel like you’re getting behind in class–all colleges have free tutoring services. (Center for Academic Support or a similiar name) Get yourself down there right away and get help.

Good luck!
