I plan to take Math Analysis over the summer (another name for precalc). If you want to advise me about the difficulty, please do it on this thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/22448946#Comment_22448946
This thread (the one you are reading right now), is solely for some good online summer course options for Math Analysis. Please reply with any good courses below! Thanks in advance!
Johns Hopkins CTY has a self-paced Honors Pre-Calculus courses.
If you’re really ambitious, talented, and up for a challenge, Art of Problem Solving also has one.
CTY is quite expensive but AoPS is promising. Why is it a challenge though? I currently am maintaining a steady 97 in algebra II Honors.
AoPS is basically the “home” of math competitions and most students taking the classes have that background. Their courses cover subjects in much more depth than the typical high school.
A data point - my D has had a 100 average every year in Math - I think she’s missed one quiz/test problem each year for the last 3 years - and is currently taking Calculus as a Sophomore, two years accelerated. She qualified for AIME and MPfG at MIT (top 300 girls in the country) last year.
She took AoPS Intermediate Algebra after Algebra 2 at HS and it was a nice challenge for her. Not overly difficult, but she was the type of student the coursework was prepped for.
Yes, CTY is always quite pricey, unfortunately.
Yes, that’s true. It is quite expensive. A small percent of the kids at my school do well in math and take AP Calculus AB freshman year (they don’t do too well) but it is highly discouraged at our school for some reason (O_o). I see what you are saying about AoPS. It does look like a challenge. I have other clubs and research projects that I am working on, so I am going for a typical high school honors Precalc/Math Analysis course. I found a good course though. It would be nice if you could quickly take look at it:

- Quick Info: I took Chemistry H from the guys above. They are super flexible, have great instructors, good online material, college board approved, have many self-paced courses (including Precalc) and are pretty good with their prices (median: $700). I am sure they have AP's too.
I just want to say that I have a heavy focus on Math and Science, I am taking multiple Science AP’s and Math AP’s along with English AP’s soon. Math and Science are my strong suits, I looked at the AoPS problems and they weren’t tough at all, but I would prefer something simpler. By simpler, I mean that AoPS is not pricey, but their timings are whacky. There is no Precalc course over the summer and the ones they have are 6 months long, also the course is a bit too strict on deadlines based on what I read. Also, I am good at self-studying. Thanks a lot for your help!
