I'm an incoming freshman for the upcoming fall and I have a couple questions regarding the placement exams that I hope someone can help me answer. They're pretty basic questions but I couldn't find the answer on UT's site.

Are calculators allowed for the ALEKS assessment (the one required before orientation) as well as at the UT Math Assessment taken during orientation? If so, are there limitations for the calculators (i.e. will a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition be allowed to for use during the test)?

Thanks so much and hook 'em! :D

Bump. Please, anyone?

If I remember correctly you do not need one. On the pre-orientation online test, the software will pop up a calculator when you need it. The live version at orientation is a shorter version and you don’t need a calculator there too. This is just to make sure you didn’t cheat online. I don’t think they will even let you use a calculator at orientation.

@texansfan1 Thank you for the reply! On the practice/mock-test I had to take before purchasing the ALEKS exam it didn’t say anything about having a calculator or not. I ended up using a calculator on the mock and getting all the questions, however, I know of several I would not have been able to solve otherwise because I have forgotten how to solve them. Do you think I should try re-doing that practice without a calculator before I buy the ALEKS?

Thanks again(:

I wouldn’t worry about it. First they will give you a pop-up calculator in their software for the problems you need one, and second you just need to get an 80 to be able to take any math course you want. A 70 is good for most, but not all, and so on. Also remember you can take this thing multiple times until you improve your score to where it needs to be.

@texansfan1 Awesome, thanks so much for clearing that up!(:
