Math And Computer Science

How difficult would it be to double major in math and computer science?

Not that hard. Since these two disciplines are closely related, there are usually some overlapping courses, and knowledge in one area can often help you in the other.

I was also thinking about double majoring in these two areas (just finished my sophomore year), but recently I've decided that I'm probably just going to minor in comp sci. But yeah, if you like both areas, go for it.

If you like it, why not? CS requires a lot of math anyway so the two will overlap a ton.

u pretty much just have to take some theory corses.

Possible... very possible.

Doing something like art history and chemical engineering would be difficult but comp sci and math are VERY related so the classes should relate and possible overlap.

Hello. I'm currently a freshman computer science major and mathematics minor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. A double major with CS and math is feasable (especially at schools where the CS curriculum is more math-oriented), but be prepared for a much more intense workload.

Good luck.

Much more doable at an LAC, where the CS is more theoretical and thus meshes better. i.e, I'm considering a 3x major including Math/CS and it could be doable thanks to certain math/cs classes being crosslisted.

If you're somewhere with a top CS program, it will be brutal. (i.e CMU)
If you're somewhere that discourages multiple majors, it will be tough (i.e Carleton).
If you're at an 'institute of technology' where the knowledge is more practical, it will involve taking a lot of extra classes.

Hey, at this top CS program and institute of technology, math and CS is one of the most popular doubles around.

Shouldent be a huge burdon since they do go hand in hand, im thinking about doing that since you HAVE to take a math minor to get a cs major.

not at my school its about 6more math classes to get a math minor from CS or CEN
