I will be transferring to UCSD in the Fall as an engineering major. Due to a change of major (from Econ to Engineering), I will need to complete lower division Math and Physics courses once I transfer. More specifically, I will need to take Math 20D-E-F and Physics 2A-B-C-D. Are most of these courses graded using a curve?

Also, what is a reasonable number of classes I can expect to take each quarter? I'm just trying to figure out how long it will take me to graduate.

Some math classes curve tests if the average is significantly lower than a ‘C’, as for the entire class, I’m not very sure. I believe the same applies for physics classes.

But more importantly, you can reasonably take 4 classes per quarter, even 5 if you feel that your schedule is manageable.

Pretty much you’ll want to be taking those lower divison requirements in this order:

Fall Quarter:

Physics 2A
Math 20 (D or E or F)*
Other Class
Other Class

Winter:

Physics 2B
Math 20 (D or E or F)*
Other Class
Other Class

Spring:
Physics 2C
Math 20 (D or E or F)*
Other Class
Other Class

Fall Next Year:
Physics 2D
Other Class
Other Class
Other Class

*You don’t have to take the 20 series (after C) in any specific order, but see what topics they cover to learn what order suits you.

Note: Physics pretty much has to be taken in that order (I believe each class is a pre-req to the next one).

As for the “Other Class”, try and see what the pre-reqs for your upper div classes are to see if you can take them concurrently with some of those lower divs etc, etc.

As for graduation, you may have to wait a year longer (lower division requirements for majors usually take 1-2 years to complete).

Thanks alot Schwing. Does UCSD typically have a summer quarter as well? I am a veteran and don’t mind going to school year round to get it done quicker, unless, ofcourse, I can land a sweet internship.

Yeah, there is a summer session here. You can practically take a full quarter’s worth if you do the June 14th-September 17th session. You can find out more about summer session here: [Summer Session - UC San Diego](http://summersession.ucsd.edu/)

By the way, lower division classes offered during summer are bountiful.
