I'm going to be a senior in high school this fall and my parents are putting a lot of pressure on me to major in a high paying field. They especially would like me to major in some sort of engineering or medical field like pharmacy. The problem is that I'm not especially good at math and science and the topics don't interest me at all. If I just worked really hard would I be able to do well in an engineering/medical major or is the fact that I don't perform as well in math and science going to hold me back?

are you asian?

No I'm not asian

thats some BS...and engineering and pharmacy classes are all math and science oriented i wouldn't even consider it if i were you...don't do anything you don't want to do and ditch those azn parents

He just said he's not Asian.

No. If you don't love math and science don't even consider engineering. I don't know anything about pharmacy. Major in something you actually like, instead of the exact thing you're not good at.

Industrial engineering doesn't have toooooooooooo much math...

yea this is such a guess

If you are looking for the high paying salary engineering is not the field for you. If you want a high paying salary study Business.

Its more so my parents are looking for a high salary, I'd be okay with a moderate income.

It's so nice your parents care about your happiness.

major in business, nice and easy and high pay salary :D

Don't do something you don't want to do just to please your parents. Grow a backbone and major in what you like.

Keep in mind unless I get a really good scholarship, my parents will be the one's paying for my education.

Take out loans and go to a state school. Study what you want or you'll regret it the rest of your life.

Well what are you interests and what are you good at? Play to your strengths and interests, because you can be just as successful as any engineer or doctor doing something you like.

And there's hella math in Industrial Engineering.

are your parents asian? it really seems like they are the typical controlling parents who force their kids to do med/pharm/engineering as if those are the only worthwhile degrees

Study whatever you like and persuade them as best as you can.
Real world is all about negotiations and marketing.

I've seen plenty of Caucasian parents who wanted/pressured their kids to study in high paying fields.

Easy answer. Tell them you are double majoring in engineering and medicine, so they can support you financially and major in whatever the hell you want.

"are your parents asian? it really seems like they are the typical controlling parents who force their kids to do med/pharm/engineering as if those are the only worthwhile degrees"

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing you are asian with the typical "My life is revolved around my kid being successful no matter how bad I screw up his normal development" parents.
