Math at community college

So…

I taught myself calculus ab+bc material last year and got a 5 on the bc ap test. I’m currently a junior and am just in ap stats this year. Question is… Would I be allowed to take multivariate/calc 3 at a community college next year without having taken an actual calculus class here even though I got a 5 on the bc exam? I tried getting an appointment with my counselor but I guess schedule changes are taking up every minute of the day or something still.

Many community colleges will allow you to skip calc 1 and 2 with a 5 in AP Calc BC, just as 4-year colleges and universities.

Now i wonder if my school would let me. It was hard enough to get them to let me pay for the ap test last year…

CCs usually need your counselor’s and/or principal’s signatures to enroll as a high school student. If the CC has an explicit AP policy, that would probably help convince them.

Try again to schedule a meeting with your counselor-- no one here can tell you your school’s policy. If your school is unwilling, call up your CC and ask them if it’s necessary for the school to sign off. If so, you can take Calc 3 without your school’s permission.

the 5 on the ap calc BC test speaks for itself

From what I know (Ive taken more CC math classes than I have throughout high school so far), usually you will have to get permission from your school, take an entrance exam (although your 5 on the AP exam may let you skip this), and (in some cases) get permission from college officials. Best of luck!
