Math at U Mich or Carnegie Mellon

Carnegie Mellon offers Applied Mathematics for undergrads, which I am interested in majoring in, while U Mich only offers Mathematics as a major, but I understand that the fields are similar.

How would you say the quality and selectivity of the mathematical program at University of Michigan Ann-Arbor compare to those at Carnegie Mellon?

One thing I am trying to consider is if the prestige and academic reputation of Carnegie Mellon is worth the extra $6,000/year over U Mich.

I would say yes to CMU, but not due to prestige as UM is public ivy. I think you will get more advising, smaller classes, better undergrad research opportunities, and generally more attention at CMU.

Thanks for the response; how would you compare admissions at either school? For math majors, is Carnegie Mellon significantly more selective, or are they pretty comparable?
