Math B Regents.

Hi. For high scorers, how did you prepare for the Math B regents? I am just practicing past regents problems. Is there anything else that I can do so I would be more prepared for the regents? Thanks.

I just took the Math B Regents last June and it wasn't anything to worry about. In fact, I did not prep at all and I don't think it's really even necessary. Now, I got a six credit proof incorrect because I was too lazy to study proofs that we learned a year and a half ago but other than that, I learned and knew everything from a standard Math B class. If you do fine in math class, it's not a big hurdle-just a regular math exam. I don't think you need to do "extra" prepping. If your math teacher covers all the material and you do well on your periodic exams that mimic the Math B Regents, that's your prep right there.

for u -what is a high score?

Thanks for the replies...I would say a grade in the 90s...preferably 95 or higher.

This years Regents was a lot harder than usual - because of that my school is writing a letter which will come with the transcript noting that fact. If you are practicing by using old Regents, take this one with a grain o' salt - yours won't likely be as hard.

100- the best advice i can give you is do all of the old regents, be confident, and have a personal talk with your calculator (who you should have given a name to)

ilovemath314159, did you get a 100 on this June's Math B Regents?

I scored a 95; the entire test is calculator based. Basically every equation on the exam can be graphed and you can do the zero/intersection method.

Gexxman,

I don't think this year's Math B Regents was harder than usual. There weren't any linear regression questions and barely any statistic questions. When I first glanced at the test, I was actually relieved to see that I knew how to do everything. Also, I think the fact there was less dependency on the graphic calculator this time may have contributed to this so-called difficulty.

I hate how people are just blaming low scores (not you, specifically) on the difficulty of the test. Thing is, I'm not a brilliant math student (my SAT scores reflect that) but I do well in math class because I make sure that I'm following the material and if I'm not, I take the effort to understand the material. This test wasn't astronomically hard. People did do well, including me. Most of my friends, even those who didn't do so well, agree that this test wasn't so difficult.

I don't mean to come off as rude but it's been ****ing me off since June that I've heard complaints about this test. It wasn't any harder than usual and there's no reason for school officials to whine.

Thanks. IvyLeague, can you tell me what you mean by the zero/intersection method? I use a TI-83+, but I don't always seem to be able to have the graphing help me on some questions (well, the more difficult ones). Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hey, that wasn't an expletive! Darn, college confidential.

I took the Math B regents a year ago and got a 98, I was kind of surprised, but you need to show an INSANE amount of work and remember any formula you can. A lot of the things you need to do on the test require plugging in a lot of stuff, and you have to write down what you plug and things like that.

The Regents itself is insane for that a lot of the questions on the test have formulas you usually don't learn till Pre-Calc!!

Also Math B has a lot of freakin' writing!!

And to reply to another comment, my calculator's name is: Ol' Reliable!

Is the MATH B score really regarded in the admissions? Is it relevant at any level?

I hope so. But regents are only administered in NY. So lets say we were applying to BU, how would candidates from California or Michigan compare with no regents score?

Well anyway, I hope is is relevant, because I got 100 for the Math A regents, and soon to be taking Math B at the end of this year. I will be aiming for another 100 too!!!

in response to the question from before, i got the 100 on June 2004 math B

and good job lil_killer129, i got a 99 on math a..... crap lol

LMAO!!.. do you attend stuy/bxsci/tech?... because people in those schools usually score in the 96+ range for regents. Anyway, I'm one of the few who aren't in one of those specialized HS but I do well.

Townsend Harris!!!!!! wooootttttttt
the science schools SUCK!!!!!!! lol jk
where do u go

environmental studies... :( i was the only one to get 100 on the math a regents administered on jan 2005, followed by 2-4 tied with 95's. great school huh?

I take the regents this year...im in 10th starting tommorow(and out of all my friends im the latest starter..) for quite a few of my camp friends who are a year older then me were in the same math or there in a different state and are math are equal...

good luck fwfgirl08... well you dont really need it cuz the math a reg gets easier every year.
