Hi all --

I am here to ask a bit about math careers, but with some conditions, because I know the standard business about how math majors can do this and that, pure vs. applied math, using math to do econ, computational biology, etc.

My question is for those who were on the path to becoming research mathematicians, and then for whatever reason didn't end up finding, say, the professorship positions they wanted for whatever reasons. These are, I presume, not applied mathematicians at heart in any sense. What did you all do?

I am still just in my undergrad years, but before you eat me alive and say I shouldn't be thinking about such things at this time, if you happen to believe that, pity my curiosity and answer me!

I look forward to your feedback.
