i am taking my first transferable math course over the spring (last semester b4 i transfer). is that okay, because I was wondering if you need to complete your math before you apply..?

i'll be taking intermed. algebra over the fall.. which is non transferable.

(btw i am going to be a second year student looking to apply THIS november)

Actually I am quite sure it states that you need to have your math and both transferrable english done by the end of fall quarter/semester. This was an issue for my gf and she ended up taking the int. algebra over this summer so she could take the transferrable one in the fall. I think your best bet would be to use the summer to brush up on algebra and re-take the placement test to try and place in stats. for fall.

University of California - Admissions
Junior-Level Transfer
The vast majority of transfer students come to the University at the junior level from California community colleges. To be eligible for admission to UC as a transfer student, you must fulfill both of the following criteria:

Complete 60 semester (90 quarter) units of transferable college credit with a GPA of at least 2.4. No more than 14 semester (21 quarter) units may be taken Pass/Not Pass.

Complete the following course pattern requirements, earning a grade of C or better in each course: Two transferable college courses (3 semester or 4–5 quarter units each) in English composition; one transferable college course (3 semester or 4–5 quarter units) in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning; four transferable college courses (3 semester or 4–5 quarter units each) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas: the arts and humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, and the physical and biological sciences.

Each course must be worth at least 3 semester units.

If you satisfy the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) prior to transferring to UC, you may satisfy the seven-course pattern outlined above, depending on
the courses you take. For more information, visit Welcome to ASSIST.

This is for the UC website. It doesn't say that you have to complete it Fall sem. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try and place in a higher Math class for Fall

I'm pretty sure the rule is that you can take it during spring, but I think it would significantly help your application to have completed the important classes (english, math etc.) by Fall.

I realize it's too late for you to take algebra over the summer. If you aren't being forced to take it as a pre-req, you might want to consider spending all your time before the fall semester begins learning the material on your own so that you can skip to the transferrable course for the fall. You would be taking a risk by doing this though, so make sure you will be able to handle it before deciding to try.
