math class problem

My high school has no more math classes I can take for my senior year. I'm thinking of going to a community college to take a math course, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get in. Will this prevent me from being accepted to schools that require 4 years of math? Also, will it look bad on my application next year?

The math classes I have taken are:
Freshman year: Algebra 2
Sophmore year: Trig and AP Stats
Junior year: Calc BC

People skip math their senior year (or senior + junior year in 1 case I’ve seen) and still get accepted. Honestly, if you’ve done BC, it’s enough to satisfy your “I can do math” portion of the application. Nonetheless, taking a CC class would be great and show extra initiative, which always helps.

Four years of math stops with Trig in sophomore year. You’ve done 6 years of math, as they start counting from Algebra 1.

Try and take a class at a local college. If you can’t, I recommend: asking your Calc teachers if they want a regular assistant AND explaining why you didn’t take a further math course in your application.

Have you looked into online courses?

If you’re planning on going into a math-related field like engineering, it’s advisable to take some kind of math in your senior year so your math skills stay sharp. Otherwise, the lack of math as a senior won’t matter.

ok thanks. right now i’m still trying to get into a cc for a math course, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be happening

If nothing else, can you tutor kids in calc to stay current?

If you are considering engineering, then look into Linear Algebra. It’s an option to multivariable calculus, the usual next stop after AP Calc.

I had the same problem as you last year and wasn’t able to work around my schedule to take Multivariable Calculus so I didn’t take a math course senior year. I got into Northwestern just fine but I am going to need a lot of reviewing this summer since I practically forgot everything.

do you think that taking physics c would keep me up to date?
