Ok so I attend a community college and am a reservist in the military. I am deploying right when the Fall semester ends for 6 months. I just finished Trig and was planning on taking precalc next semester deploying for the next semester then when I get back taking Calc 1. Pretty much taking pre calc then a semester off then calc 1.

I am now thinking that it might be better if I don't take any Math next semester, deploy and then take pre calc. Which would give me a year inbetween trig and precalc.

Which one would be easier for me? I get high grades in Math. Hope this makes sense.

If you intend to transfer to a four year school to complete an engineering degree, you should note that math is an important piece of the prerequisite chains. Delaying math by a semester will delay becoming transfer-ready by a semester (which may delay transferring by a whole year if the four year schools only accept applications for fall semester entry as junior transfers).

If you take calculus 1 in fall 2012, you will complete the needed math by spring 2014, so you can continue at the four year school as a junior in fall 2014. Delaying calculus 1 until spring 2013 means that you will complete the needed math by fall 2014, which may mean waiting until fall 2015 to enter the four year school as a junior if the four year school does not accept incoming junior transfers in the spring semester.

Calculus 1 and additional math courses are also typically needed to take the physics courses needed for engineering.

What is the reason for the delay?

If you are a engineering major or future engineering major, NEVER GO A SEMESTER WITHOUT DOING A MATH CLASS. Better yet, take two math classes at once if possible. The only time when it is okay to go without math for a semester is after you’ve finished all of your necessary math classes.
