I am currently a junior in high school and am planning on applying to highly competitive colleges. I now have to choose classes for next year, and wanted to ask everyone's advice about one aspect of this.
I have so far taken the most challenging classes offered at my school, and have gotten As in all of them except for one semester of math last year and probably this upcoming semester. However, I am on the advanced math tract and am therefore going to finish AP Calculus B/C at the end of this year, and will presumably get at least a 4 on the AP Test.
Now I am wondering, though, if I need to take a 4th year of math next year, since it's my least favorite subject and I'd prefer to take advanced courses in a different subject. I know colleges usually like to see 4 years, but I'm unsure if my situation is different.
If I do take math next year, my options would be to take Calculus 3, which unlike my sophomore and junior math classes would not be weighted, or to take AP Statisitics.
Additionally, I don't plan on majoring in a math or science in college, BUT I do plan on being pre-med. Therefore, my questions are
a) Would not taking a 4th year of math hurt my chances of getting accepted to certain competitive colleges?, and
b) How would not taking a 4th year of math affect the classes I would need to take if I am accepted?
