I am a senior in the IB program. Math is my strongest subject, but I idiotically chose AP stat instead of advancing to IB Higher Level math (i got a 7 on the ib Standard Level exam). Is this putting me at a major disadvantage for admission even if i got a 800 on the Math II subject test and a 36 on my my ACT math?

Yes, admissions people at highly selective schools will wonder why you did not choose the most rigorous and advanced math course available to you, especially if math is your strongest subject.

One course isn’t going to make you or break you. I doubt it’s a “major” disadvantage, as AP Stat is actually a legitimate course and many majors in college will require a stats course, so you can make the case that it was a legitimate math detour.

If everything else is fine, you’ll be fine. If there are lots of little flubs like this, they could add up and cause trouble, but you’ll never know that. No one ever knows why they don’t make it. You’re in AP Stat, it’s over, do well, and apply as if there’s no problem.

Statistic is very useful for Business. Indeed Statistic courses at Penn are prerequisites for many economic courses. While the AP Statistics course is not advanced enough to replace Penn’s college level statistics courses, it’s a good introduction to them.

Do well in the course, as I expect you will. With your ACT math and SAT math 2 scores, and (presumably) strong math course grades you have a strong math profile.
