Math Classes... help!

2 questions... I'm trying to find a good math class for me--I hate math and I'm just trying to fulfill the QR req. I'm HORRIBLE at math, I hate it! I still count on my fingers and I'm worried about a math class at UCB, lol. I'm looking through the "Earning Your Degree" book and it says you have to take a UC Placement test to take a math class... I know someone who just enrolled in their math class without bothering to take the placement test. Are there any consequences to not taking the test? Are the results for our personal use--to help us pick our class, or do we actually HAVE to take it?

So yeah: Which math class will be most forgiving to me, and do we have to take the placement test?

Umm, its been a while, but I dont remember a placement test....

But I mean, depending on your major, that will tell you which Math class to take. I think most majors are ok with you taking the 16 series, but you might have to take 53 or 54 later on. Like I said, it depends on your major, so try to look into that.

Stat 2 also fulfills QR if you don't want to take calculus, which Math 1A/16A are.

Why take Stats2 when you can take Stats21???

The OP just wants to pass the QR requirement and the easiest class for that would be Stats 2.

Someone hating math taking Stats 21 with Purves? That would be a terrible decision. But still better than Stats 21 with Freedman last spring. That was the worst ever.

Eek. A few people taking Stats last semester told me it was difficult, but then again I guess I'm not going to like any class for the QR. Thanks you, everyone, for your input.... as for the placement test I guess I'll just skip it... I mean, what are they gonna do, point at your passing grade in the class and say "that doesn't count because you didn't take the placement test!"?

Nevermind, I guess Stark doesnt teach stats no more, yall missed out. But then again, if your not good at math, how did you get into cal?

Stark's on disability and is teaching online class over the summer. His disability screwed most of my Stats 21 class during Spring Semester. So many people bombed Freedman's class. I worked harder for those 4 units than in my other 12 units of classes combined last year. That final was murderous & this is coming from someone who got an A- in the class.

I don't know how I got into Cal. I guess I'm a good BSer (personal statement)?

I took 3 years of math in HS, Alegbra I, Geometry, and Alegebra II. Grades: B+, C, C, respectivly. Math and I just don't get along.

What about math 32? That should be easy enough.

you don't have to take the placement test, they don't even record your results
it's just there for you to confirm your level of mathematical knowledge and for you to see which math class if suitable in your situations
