math classes?

do i have to take specific math classes to complete a degree in biology? will a certain math course be helpful for pre-med?

I’m pretty sure most (if not all) med schools expect applicants to have taken Calculus I and Calculus II. I believe some med schools also expect a statistics class to be taken as well. These classes won’t necessarily help you on the MCAT but are part of the pre-requisites for med schools. Also, I believe a majority of undergrad schools require at least Calculus I as part of the biology degree, even though I don’t see how calculus has anything to do with biology -_-. It’s more of a way to check if someone is competent enough to receive the degree I guess?

But other than that, no other math classes will be “helpful” for pre-meds.

It will depend on your school. Most B.S. degrees will require Calculus I. Statistics is becoming more and more required for medical school, and is helpful for basically everything else too.

thanks for the responses guys. man, i was really hoping i could avoid calculus in college but i guess that won’t be happening! i’m taking a dual credit calc course next year, so hopefully i’ll have calc I out of the way. yeah i really don’t see how calculus pertains to biology either haha.

gimmedat, all of 4 (down to maybe 2 now?) medical schools require Calculus II.

Hmmm that’s weird. I thought all med schools expected Calc II. Sorry for the wrong info. Which schools require it btw?
