Math Classes

I’m a freshman in Adv. Algebra II with a 4.0 in the class, and I was wondering what math path I should take. My school offers IB and Dual Enrollment, so there are only two paths for me to take. I also want to pursue the IB Diploma, so I don’t know whether one of these paths voids that.

Path 1:
Sophomore: IB Math SL 1
Junior: IB Math SL 2
Senior: Calculus DE (Math 251 and 252 Credits) and AP Statistics

Path 2:
Sophomore: Pre-Calculus
Junior: IB Math HL 1
Senior: IB Math HL 2 (Math 251) and Calculus DE (Math 251 and 252)

Unless your school does something special you cannot take IB classes before junior year for credit for the IB Diploma. Also, unless you plan on learning precalc at home, you shouldn’t do plan 1 because math sl does not cover precalculus.
Plan 2 seems to be your best option, but I don’t think you should do math hl at the same time as DE.

I woudl go for the IB Diploma…whichever path takes you there. Some colleges give you extra credit for the diploma.

My high school actually incorporates Pre-Calc into Math SL. Advanced Algebra II feeds into either IB Math Studies SL, IB Math SL, or Pre-Calc. I think it’s ok if I end up taking part 1 of the SL in sophomore year, according to one of the math teachers at my school. I think I’ll probably have to check with my counselor or the IB coordinator for security, though.
