MATH + CMSC double major

I'll be a freshman at UMD this Fall.

I intend to do a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science, but not pretty sure about it.
Enrolled for Computer Science at the moment.

My Orientation is on 28/29 July.

Not sure as to whether my adviser should know about my double major intentions just yet. Is it OK to register for regular classes for the first year and then decide on the double major later?
If I decide on it after the first year, then are there any drawbacks?

I think it's doable. My son is going in that direction and also participating in Honors Humanities. He will have something like 58 credits from his AP classes which obviously makes a big difference.

He enrolled for 17 credits his first semester. Just don't overload yourself that first semester. I had hoped he'd have a lighter courseload. But he's very happy with everything.
