Math Department and Game design

How is the mathematics major here at UCSC?

is it rigorous? ranked highly?

What is the game design major like?

I applied as a math major but I'm thinking if i do get accepted, I might want to explore the game design major (this was my alternate). I don't think it is possible to get accepted into both choices (is it?), but is it possible to transfer from a math major to a game design major? Could I possibly take both courses?

I’m a math major, we’re a pretty small group of students here at UCSC. Then again, that’s what I like about it.

There’s a lot of info on courses, different tracks, and research opportunities at our website:
[UCSC Mathematics](http://www.math.ucsc.edu/index.html)

Interesting how you asked that…because I’m wondering about the game design major myself.

All I can really tell you about the game design major is that we are the only UC to offer it, as well as one of only two schools on the west coast with this major. (the other is USC)

Also, students create a game as their senior project and we have contracts with sony and EA games.

This major is offered through our professional school, the Jack Baskin School of Engineering.

That’s the extent of my knowledge on that! haha

u can consider a double major. I doubled in math and computer science (no game design at the time). graduated in 1977

So I’m considering returning to UCSC and majoring in Computational Math… but I’m a little intimidated by the less engineering-like classes… i.e. algebra and stuff…
What do you guys think about the Math department and major?

i dont think the uc’s allow double majors anymore do they? i know that i have directly heard that they dont allow 2nd bachelor’s

double majors… of course they do.

2nd bachelor admits… they’ve pretty much been killed off, but will probably be back in the next few years
