Same position as you. :)

yep...double E...hope I make it out alive :)
PeterDLai: what GE courses are you going take for first quarter?

im EE next year too....however, i took CalcI/II @ a community college and received an A and a B

what do I have to take? any placement tests? what do i enroll in next year?

(note: calcI was all about derivation and calcII was all about integration, its applications, and a unit on series and sequences)

I got a 3 on the Calc AB, so would I still have to take the placement test at orientation?

Hmm, what if you signed up to take the math test at orientation but then got a 4 on the Calc AB test?

SpecialK:
Yay! another EE majo! I think your units will be transferrable, and you can enroll in Math 32A, which is pretty cool! Math 31A deals with Differential Calculus and Math 31B deals with Integration and Infinite Series. You'd be almost a year ahead in the Mathematics requirement if you get to enroll in Math 32A.

Shinseki12:
If you plan on enrolling in Math 31A, then you'll have to take the placement test. Your 3 gets you out Calculus but not Math 31A. I heard that the test really isn't that bad. Good Luck :)

JOnez:
You don't have to take the placement test. TO unsign yourself up, log on to myucla. scroll down to "My reservation INfo" box on the Right Hand side of the screen. In this box it says "Click here to change your placement exam status", and you can unsign yourself. This applies to the foreign language exam as well if you got a 3 or higher.

Thanks waitingpatiently, so does that mean if I plan on taking Math3A, I don't have to take the placement test?

Your Welcome! so if you want to enroll in Math 3A you STILL have to take the test. off the orientation website : "Students planning to enroll in Math 1, 3A, or 31A for Fall Quarter must take the departmental diagnostic examination. You will have two opportunities to take this exam before Fall Quarter". Make sure the math class you are planning to take is a requirement for your major. and again good luck!

Gah, I hate tests =(
Anyway, thanks again, waiting

waitingpatiently: I don't know if I'm going to be taking a GE elective my first quarter because it seems like I've gotten a good number of AP credit so I want to see how that factors in first. Preferrably something easy if I do though. :)

yeah me too...I'm getting AP credit out of first quarter chem and math and a lot of other things too. They've got the 4 year curriculum on their website with units and everything...so hmmm...i'll see.

"If you plan on enrolling in Math 31A, then you'll have to take the placement test. Your 3 gets you out Calculus but not Math 31A. I heard that the test really isn't that bad. Good Luck"

Sorry, just a quick correction. Math 31A IS Calculus. As well as Math 31B and 32A. In fact it probably goes on. And actually the score of 3 doesn't get you out of too much. It doesn't even satisfy Math 1. Check here http://www.math.ucla.edu/undergrad/diagnostic.html and look under Math 31 A

But on the upside, the test isn't too terrible. It's mostly geometry, algebra and some trig...

Yeah, i was looking on the UCLA AP credit website, which says credit for Calculus, but that's wrong. Getting a three will give you credit, but you still have to take the placement test. This summer they made a lot of changes in AP credit for engineering majors. If you're an engineering major like myself, anyone who did not score a 5 on the AP Calc "BC" exam has to take the test. So even though I got a 5 on AP Calc AB, i still had to take the test, along with most of the other engineering students. That was not a pleasant surprise. It didn't even matter if you got a 4 on the AP Calc BC exam, you still had to take it. oh well it was REALLY easy...i only missed a few problems and i enrolled into math 31B.
Math 1 = Precalculus
Math 31A = differential Calculus
Math 31B = integration and infinite series

Orientation was sooo much fun.

All of what waitingpatiently said is true. I just got back from orientation and unless you get a 5 on the BC test then you would have to take the Math diagnostic test. For the rest of you, do not fear, as this applies ONLY to engineers. I will not go into great detail but the OC (orientation counselors) are VERY helpful in getting all this straightened out. UCLA basically had last minute changes for SEAS. What this means it that you need to make sure you don't miss the placement test.

And remember, A Trojan is good only once but a Bruin is forever =)

Seas = ???

School of Engineering and Applied Science

yes orientation WAS fun! and Bruins ARE forever! :)
