Would anyone have any pointers about the best way to prepare for the MATH 1910/1920 placement test for Cornell Engineering?
bump
I both took the 1910 placement test and the class. The 1910 placement test is not easy. Imagine the roughest BC final, and that’s be it. Youll be assaulted by series, too. And if you want to take both tests, you have to take both within the same few hours period set aside in orientation. That is really hard.
I can say to just review all your calc BC material over the summer, know it well. And I suppose ditto for 1920, but I have no experience with the test.
@Nataliedragon They test on series for the 1910 placement test? Darn, that’s evil considering 1920 never even touched on a series throughout the course.
Yep, they absolutely did. Remember that these placement exams are meant to test if you have the knowledge that someone who took the class would/should have. And infinite series is prominent in any calc 2 class, like 1910.
Don’t worry, my 1910 final was also plenty evil about it.(I actually walked out of the placement exam as soon as I saw the series on it, so I took 1910)
Lol it’s funny considering series never pop up in 1920 or 2940, even though 1910 is a prereq for both. That being said it’s important to understand series, so I can understand why they’d put emphasis on the topic in 1910.
Wait, do you use series in 2930 (diff eq) then? Crap, might need to brush up on it then.
It’s not superemphasized in 1910 (you don’t even start it until after the second prelim, I believe). But you probably would not have done well on the final if you didn’t at least somewhat get it.
Not sure actually. Haven’t taken 2930 yet. They definitely aren’t a huge part of 2940 (the instructor mentioned the e^x taylor series for like one minute in the whole course, and that was just to give some background for the lesson).
Ah, I just finished 1920 and am required to take 2930 as opposed to 2940 next semester since it’s a corequisite for an ENGRD I have to take.
