So a math class I want to sign up for has a requirement for an adequate score on a math diagnostics exam. So I went on the UCB math department site and they gave me this very informal test on math problems. It talked about how if you scored green or red on these questions then you should take this class. I think this is to good to be true. No sign up or fee for a test on a Saturday morning? Someone could just make up a score on this makeshift test. So I am wondering, is this online test the real math diagnostics exam? It makes me wonder, does Berk even cares if I take a math class and don't have the prerequisites?

That is the exam, informal as it appears to be.

So basically you could make up a score to get into any math class. It strangely seems unlike UC Berkeley (You must take this and this test), but then again it does sound like UC Berkeley (let them survive on their own).

As my jewish grandpa used to say, what's not to get?!?

You take the "informal" test. You cheat. You select a course beyond your ability. You fail it. Who are you to blame?

I wished I could do that but I'm lazy and will probably opt for the class that is below my abilities. Is there a class before math 32, like pre-pre-calculus?

Viromonkey, have you taken AP Calculus AB?

question: if i took AB calc senior year in high school and im gonna be a soph, will math 16A kill me? uh, keep in mind that i only got a 2 on the AP test and don't remember much.

oh yeah don't tell me to take math 32 b/c it's ESSENTIAL to take it this semester.. thanks :)

It seems that you have no other choice then to take math 16a, whether it kills or not.
