Math Discussion For ACT December 2009

the answer was 140…

20+24+28+32+36=140

i mean, i could be wrong, im reallly not good at math. but there were 20 cans on top, and to each individual can there were 4. so 20 x 4 = 80 on the bottom, and then you add the 20 on the top to get 100 cans total.

If each column has 4 more than the column above it, then you should be able to simply add the amount of cans on the column to 4. There are five columns, with the first one having 20 cans. So, 20+24+28+32+36= 140, like vaultipod said.

i looked at the problem wrong then =/ for what i thought it was asking i did the math right. oh well.

the system of equations question that you had to solve so that you had infinitely many solutions.

what did yall put?

I put 4 if I remember correctly

What was the answer to the last problem with like a regular pentagon or something like that?

It was 4- I spent like 10 minutes on that lol

no nvm the question with 16^a=1/(64^a+1) was definitely -3/5, not -3

108 degrees.

Anyone want to confirm 72 for rotating fan m to fan n?

5 fans, 360/5 = 72.

@Zens

phew - got both of those

yes. -3/5 was the answer…
i missed the tan(1/2)
i have gotten a 35 on the math the last two times and it seems i’ll be doing the same again.

and what was the question with cosine 52??

What was that fricken boat problem? That was the only one I guessed on and I had NO clue how to do it. I put 52 (b).

I put four too, i originally just put 2 down and kept working because i knew it would take forever to work it out.

I believe 52 was correct jkauf

Was that the question where it gave you the law of cosines?

A square inside a triangle, inside a traingle, inside a square - 4 times bigger
Gave to equations (something like 3x+4y=6 and 2x+5y=9 idk) and find for x so that it would be indefinite - 4
Triangle, height is 6 higher than the base - Height = 16
Electric Company Perecnt Increase from old rate to new rate - 57%
Cylinder - 80 times bigger
Graphy of E Company - V shaped
Law of Cosine = 52
10/100 for rational number
3/10 of pizza
Inv. tan(1/2)
There is at least one blue marble
Length of longest piece was 12 (then 6 then 3 =21)
Rotation of fan = 72
1/2 , 3/4 and +/- i root was first answer choice
First q was 0.
20+24+28+32+36=140 cans
16^a=1/(64^a+1) = -3/5
Reg Pentagon = 108

yea that big equation with 140 degrees on the outside of a triangle.

What was the perimeter or the trapezoid? I say someone give an answer. Is that what everyone else got…if so how did you get it

I think the deminsions were top of 4 base of 18 and height of 14…

44 for trapezoid area.

And i thought the electric company graph was L shaped.

Yea it had to be L shaped cause the cost for usage above 1500 (which was where the graphs varied) was the same for new and old rates so it couldn’t have changed.
