Math Discussion For ACT December 2009

I’m not. I was incredibly unsure of that question and had absolutely no time to actually “figure it out” so i had to guess.
DON’T take my word for it.

look closer  i said without a discontinuity (we have the same answer)

However for the a=4 I’m 100% sure.

It probably was without a jump discontinuity. I had no time to really figure that question out because I had saved it for last because it required more than 3 seconds of thought to figure out how to solve it.
Damn it, so much for that perfect 36 to complement my 800 on the math SAT :'(

4 is correct. I simply looked and saw that the top equation was 1/2 the value of bottom equation.

oo lol

I am delusional right now. The science section killed me today so I can’t think clearly.

mabsjenbu123, i agree with you. The math, reading, and english were pretty easy. I have never seen a science portion this hard… I mean, althought they gave you the definitions of things such as threshold negativity, i believe it was, it was still hard. I hope the science curves are generous.

SA-07, where there any questions that required the word threshold negativity? I felt like the science question was a bit harder than my test last year, but it was still essentially reading graphs. I mean that word couldve been in there, but I dont read the tables or studies unless a question prompts me to.

What were the possible answers to the Square Root question that asked you to find all the rational numbers?

I’m seeing here that the answer is 10, but I dont remember seeing 10 so I remember picking 9.

@ 1stEdition: What I did for that math one is I got the square of all the numbers up to 10, so 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100. It asked for the probability of a rational number. So, it’s 10/100. Also, yeah, this science you had to read it to understand the stuff. I just am in shock of how hard it was. Like I tried the first few passages but I was running low on time. So, I had to rush. I hope I get a good score…

Hey guys what did u get for the one near the end that gave 4 x’s like and u had to choose which equation

1st edition: the possible roots one, the 2nd choice was 9/100. they tried to trick you to say 9, assuming some ppl would forget that radical 1 is rational. but the third choice was 10/100, which is the answer.

@viny: the problem asked “which of these equations has the roots -3, -2, i, -i” or something like that (i know it had ±i)
the correct answer was choice A
(x+3)(x+2)(xˆ2+1)=0

the important thing in this problem was the (xˆ2+1) argument because that gives you the ±i

the question with perpindicular lines answer was the one that had the sloped come out to be…

6/5 and -5/6

this is going to sound really dumb, but what was the answer to the question with 10 percent off of 15 percent off of 30 with 6 percent tax? I couldnt get a answer that matched the other mc answers

24.327, i just did it

^Dream Cornell’s answer is correct

did we reach a consensus on what the graph one was? i blindly guessed b.

behindthelens - #58, which was the graph one, was answer choice F. im 100% positive…i worked it out

Yeah it was F/A
