Travel to work at 50 mph, come back home(same route) at 25mph, and it takes 3 hours. What is the total mileage. I can't use the 2xy/x+y equation since that equation only works for 1 hour. Choices are 225, 112.5,100, 62.5, and 50.

LOL, I just did that problem a while ago. Look at the other math help topic below for the solution.

Well since 2xy/x+y is for 1 hour, times it by 3 to get the total for 3 hours. ;)

3 [2(50*25)/(50+25)]

So 100 should be the right answer.

100... according to my brain (did it in my head, not sure if I'm correct)

well let's see...
driving home @ 25 mph would take 2x as long as driving home at 50 mph

and then there are 3 hours.... 1 hour for driving @ 50 mph and 2 hours for driving @ 25 mph
50 x 1 = 50
25 x 2 = 50
50 + 50 = 100 easy enough

EDIT: You beat me to it! :P

wouldn't it be 50?

it takes one hour to get there and 2 hours to get home?

EDIT: I forgot to times it by 2. oops.
100 is the correct answer.

Doh.... what is this 2xy/ x +y equation? I always use d=rt and have to actually think about the problem oO
